Frequently Asked Questions
+What are the requirements to legally marry in Hawaii?
You will need a Hawaii Marriage License, a Minister licensed and commissioned by the State of Hawaii and a witness. Your witness may be any age as long as they are able to sign their name and understand the ceremony. There are no citizenship or residency requirements and your marriage is legal throughout the world. If you reside in Germany you will need to file an Apostille on your return home which will legalize your marriage.
+How long does it take to get a Marriage License?
A Fairy Tale Wedding will provide all the necessary license information in your wedding package which is sent to you upon booking our services. This information includes directions to your marriage license office from your hotel, condo or vacation home where your are staying. We provide you with phone numbers, office hours and all required paperwork. There is no waiting period and the Marriage License Agent will give you your license at the end of the appointment which usually takes 15 minutes or so. You must both attend the appointment and you must both bring a photo ID Driver’s License or Passport (for International travelers). There are no residence or citizenship requirements.
+How much is the Marriage License and do we need any other paperwork?
You must bring $60 in cash to pay for the Marriage License, as only cash will be accepted by the Marriage License Agent. If either of you are 18 years of age or younger a birth certificate is required, under 18 years of age also requires written consent from parents, a legal guardian or a family court. If either of you have been married before, you will be asked the exact date (i.e. month, day, year), County and State of the divorce. If either of you have been divorced in the last month you will need to bring a copy of your final divorce decree.
+How long is the Marriage License valid?
The Marriage License is valid only in the State of Hawaii and expires 30 days after the date of issue. You must bring your Marriage License to the ceremony. Your Minister signs the Marriage License at the ceremony which then becomes the Marriage Certificate and files the document with the State of Hawaii.
+When will I receive my Marriage Certificate?
The State of Hawaii mails you an official, computer generated copy of your Marriage Certificate 90 - 120 days after your wedding. If you need a Marriage Certificate sooner, ask your Marriage License Agent for a green request form for a certified copy. Refer to the request form for the correct fee and complete mailing address.
